A strong second half performance from the William Jewell College men's basketball team helped propel them to a season ending win over rival Rockhurst University on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Hawks came out of the gate hot and drained seven three point shots in the first half but the Cardinals hung around and kept the game in reach at Halftime trailing 44-38.
The Cardinals responded with a 23-7 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to take a ten point lead and never looked back. Jewell would build a lead as large as 20 late in the second half.
Jewell also held the Hawks to only 8 field goals in the second half as Rockhurst struggled from the field going 8-28 after halftime and conversely, Jewell shot 58 percent from the field in the second half.Â
Darius Tomlin playing his final game as a Cardinal scored a game high 24 to lead Jewell.Â
Patrick Whelan scored 20 while
Jordan Tanner and Austin Reiger also finished in double figures with 17 and 12 respectively.Â
The Cardinals finish the 2015-16 season with a 9-17 overall mark and 4-14 record in GLVC play.Â
