Box Score The William Jewell College women's tennis team defeated Truman State, 7-2 Friday afternoon to earn the Cardinals their first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory of the season.
Jewell got off to a strong start by sweeping doubles play. The no. 1 tandem of
Lauren Huddlestun and
Savannah Drew earned an 8-5 victory and
Lisanne Visseren and
Sabrine Navarro made quick work of Truman's No. 2 team 8-2.Â
Hannah Waine and
Claire Mackay capped doubles play off with a thrilling 9-7 victory in the No. 3 flight.
Huddlestun prevailed in a hotly-contested match at No.1, winning in three sets. The junior rallied after dropping the first set 6-2 to win the second and third set 6-1 and 7-5 respectively. Visseren also rallied after dropping her first set to win 4-6, 6-4 and 6-0.Â
Waine earned the most convincing victory by 6-1, 6-0 scores at No. 6 singles while Navarro won her match at No. 5 6-2, 6-0.Â
The Cardinals improved to 10-9 overall and 1-2 in GLVC matches with the victory.
Jewell returns to action tomorrow, against Quincy University at Clayview Country Club. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
