Cards Dominate Game Two to Split with UW-Parkside

The William Jewell softball team underwent a roller coaster day against Wisconsin Parkside today on the road. The Cardinals dropped the opener 5-1 to the Rangers, who are currently in last place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, before winning by their largest margin of the season at 15-1 in the nightcap. The split takes Jewell to 21-23 overall and 11-13 in the GLVC while maintaining their hold on the eighth position in the league standings.

In the opener the two teams were scoreless until the Rangers broke the seal in the fourth inning with a run. In the top of the fifth Phoebe Dabbour singled and was pinch ran for by Maddi Cox. Cox advanced and eventually came around to score on a fielder's choice by Aerin Creamer to tie the game at one a piece.

After scoring a run in the fifth themselves, UW-Parkside put the game away with a three run sixth inning on four hits.

Dabbour was the only Cardinal to record two hits as Jewell was outhit 8-4 and left five runners on base.

Shelby McGraw (13-14) took the loss going six innings, allowing five runs (four earned), on eight hits, while striking out seven.

In the nightcap the Cardinals came back with vengence scoring four runs before an out was recorded. Two singles, a double, and a home run from Dabbour gave Jewell a 4-0 lead after the first inning. In the top of the fourth frame, Creamer lead off with a solo home run that opened the flood gates for the Cardinals to score six runs. Madi Giles (single), Maddie Greenstreet (walk), Brooke Bernard (double), and Dabbour (single) all reached base before McGraw stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam to give Jewell a comfortable 10-0 cushion.

Wisconsin Parkside got on the board in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run but the Cards tacked on five more of their own in the top of the fifth to secure the 15-1 victory.

Giles, Greenstreet, McGraw, and Creamer each posted two hits, while Bernard and Dabbour had three each. 11 of the team's 15 runs came off the bats of two players as McGraw totaled a career-high seven RBI while Dabbour posted four. Greenstreet and Bernard were also the beneficiaries of those hits as each scored three runs.

Freshman Anna Biondo (6-4) continues to improve as she went five innings, allowing just three hits, one earned run, and tied her career high with eight strikeouts to earn the win.

The Cardinals continue the GLVC road trip tomorrow as they will be in Romeoville, Ill. for a match up with Lewis University beginning at 12:00 p.m.
