Box Score With the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament right around the corner, the William Jewell College women's tennis team came through on its Senior Day, earning a crucial 5-4 victory against Quincy University on Saturday.
With the win, Jewell improved to 11-9 on the season and 2-2 in league play. The victory marked a huge stepping-stone on Jewell's path to its first GLVC tournament appearance since 2013.
The Cardinals came out of doubles play up 2-1 getting wins from the tandem of senior
Savannah Drew and junior
Lauren Huddlestun and freshman
Hannah Waine and sophomore
Claire Mackay.
Quincy then took a 3-2 advantage with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Mackay won her match in straight sets at No. 3 and
Lisanne Visseren put the
Cardinals one match away from the dual victory with her three set win at No. 4. Senior
Sabrine Navarro playing in her final home match won 6-3, 6-1 to earn the match win for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals have just two more matches on the schedule, as they play Maryville University next, on Friday, April 22, starting at 2 p.m.
