Just hours after knocking off a Bellarmine team that entered the weekend unbeaten, the William Jewell Volleyball team topped Trevecca Nazarene in five sets to sweep the Bellarmine Triangle. The Cards won by scores of 25-20, 8-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10.
In the opener Jewell jumped out to a 24-16 lead, followed by the Trojans putting together a small 4-0 run before a kill by
Paige Cunningham shut the door and finished the set 25-20.
In set two the Cardinals could never find an offensive rhythm while TNU found theirs as the Trojans posted 14 kills compared to just three for Jewell. In set three the Cards turned things around winning the back-and-forth affair 25-21 before falling behind 16-9 in set four and were unable to climb out of the hole.
In set five, the Jewell offense came alive, specifically junior middle
Grace Miller who had four of the Cardinals' seven kills in the final set on their way to a 15-10 victory.
Cunningham led Jewell with 14 kills while Miller posted ten to go along with five blocks.
Olivia Tolberd continued to impress defensively collecting 27 digs with
Alix Weigel having 24 assists to the lead the Cards.
The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Bolivar, Mo. to take on non-conference opponent Southwest Baptist at 7:00 p.m. Jewell returns home for the first time this season next weekend as they will play host to Illinois Springfield on Friday and McKendree on Saturday afternoon.
