The William Jewell College women's soccer team played through double-overtime, opening the 2016 season with a 1-1 tie against University of Sioux Falls Friday evening in Kearney, Neb.
The Cardinals held the advantage in possession for a majority of the game, tripling up the Cougars in shots, 24-7. Sioux Falls, however, got on the board first scoring at the 10:58 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
Jewell scored their only goal in the 60th minute when
Emily Monroe scored on a breakaway from five yards out.
The teams battled through the final minutes with both teams creating chances. That carried over into overtime but neither would concede as they both open the season 0-0-1.
Lindsey Magnum finished her Jewell debut in goal with 1 saves while Sioux Falls goalie Morgan Perkins made 14.
The Cardinals missed some great opportunities, holding a 10-1 advantage in corners.
William Jewell is back in action again on Sunday as they take on University of Nebraska-Kearney at 11:00 a.m. in Kearney, Neb.
