Nebraska-Kearney scored a goal in the first half and another in the second as the William Jewell College women's soccer team fell, 2-0, in Kearney, Neb., Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 0-1-1, while the Lopers improve to 1-1.
Nebraska-Kearney's Megan Merkel scored her first goal of the season at the 10:15 mark in the first half to give the Lopers a 1-0 lead. Merkel then assisted teammate Michaela Hoffman at the 62:31 mark to put Kearney up by two goals. Jewell has unable to get its offense going, falling 2-0 to the Lopers.
First-year goalkeeper
Lindsey Mangum (Grain Valley, Mo.) recorded six saves and suffered her first loss of the season. Kearney's Allie Prososki recorded five saves.
The Lopers outshot Jewell 13-7 and led in corner kicks 8-4.
The Cardinals return home for Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday, September 9 against Lewis University. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
