The William Jewell women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 game to No. 10 Truman State on Friday evening at Greene Stadium. The loss drops the Cardinals to 1-6-2 overall and 1-5-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. Meanwhile the Bulldogs improve to 8-0-1.
Both teams had early chances but it was Truman who capitalized on a Cardinal error as Kelsey Murphy connected on a penalty kick in the 19th minute to give Truman the early lead.
That goal would stand up as Jewell managed just one shot in the second half while the Bulldogs posted 11.
Overall Truman State outshot Jewell 19-4 and 12-1 in shots on goal. Cardinal goal keeper
Jordan Lewis posted a career-high 11 saves while
Madison Allshouse led the Cards with two early shots.
Hayley White and
Gracie Schweinfurth each posted one shot.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday as they play host to Quincy University at 12:00 p.m. at Green Stadium.
