The William Jewell women's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest on the road at No. 13 Drury Thursday night by a final score of 75-45. The loss drops Jewell to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in the GLVC.
The Cardinals held tough for majority of the first quarter as they trailed just 15-12 with a minute remaining in the opener. However, the Panthers hit two three point shots over the final 55 seconds to take a 14-7 lead and never looked back.
Drury expanded the lead to as many as 23 in the second quarter as they outscored the Cards 24-11 in the period. The second half was much of the same as the Panthers grew the advantage to 30 by the final buzzer thanks to a 45 percent shooting clip from the floor while holding Jewell to just 28 percent and 13 total field goals. Although the Cards connected on seven three point shots, including two each from
Kayla Harrell and
Adriana Rodriguez, the overall percentage was just 28.0 from behind the arc.
Maddie Nelson led her team once again with 12 points and eight rebounds. Harrell followed with seven points, while Rodriguez and
Lindsey McCoy chipped in six a piece. McCoy also pulled down six rebounds, including three offensive boards.
Up next the Cardinals return to GLVC action on Saturday as they travel to Rolla, Mo. to take on the Miners of Missouri S&T. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
