William Jewell senior guard Maddie Nelson has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Nelson led the Cardinals to a 79-69 win over non-conference opponent Graceland on Monday night with career high 23 points and 17 rebounds to go along with a team high seven assists and three steals. 

The 17 rebounds against the Yellowjackets tied her own single game record (previously set against Rockhurst on Jan. 18, 2016)  at William Jewell and helped Nelson become just the ninth player in program history to reach the 500 career rebound milestone.

This is the first career honor for Nelson and the first for the Cardinals since Aerial Smith on January 19, 2015.
