It was a tale of two halves for the William Jewell College men's basketball team on Friday night in their first action of the season. The Cardinals fell 105-81 to the Iowa Hawkeyes in exhibition action in Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday.
The Cardinals led 46-45 at the half and led 57-51 at the 17 minute mark before Iowa went on a 12-0 run and never looked back. Iowa shot a blistering 69 percent from the field and outscored the Cardinals 60-35 in the second half.
IMPRESSIVE DEBUTS…The Cardinals had several players making their Jewell debuts tonight.
Keith Hayes led all newcomers with 16 points.
Byron Harp had 12 off the bench and Pharohh Gordon had 9 points and a game high 12 rebounds.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE…Jewell held the Hawkeyes to 40 percent shooting in the first half before Iowa caught fire and shot 69 percent in the second half. The Hawkeyes also led 46-30 in points in the paint and held a 17-2 advantage in second chance points.
UP NEXT… The Cardinals will open up the regular season in the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge when they take on Davenport University on November 10 in Westville, Ind. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
