Cardinals Drop 66-56 Decision to Central Missouri

The William Jewell women's basketball fell to 0-2 on the season, falling 66-56 at the hands of No. 13 Central Missouri. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q: The Cardinals fell behind early before a three pointer from Kaiti Butaud pulled them within 14-11. The Jennies responded with a trey of the own to take a 17-11 lead after the first ten minutes. 
  • 2Q: A 10-4 run by UCM to open the second frame, put Jewell in a 27-15 hole. Back-to-back threes by Butaud and Kayla Harrell helped Jewell put together a 8-0 run as the Cards trailed by just four 27-23. The Jennies once again swung momentum back in their direction just prior to the break with a three pointer to hold a 30-23 advantage at the intermission. 
  • 3Q: Jewell continued to battle in the third quarter, getting as close as six before UCM used a 6-0 run in the final three minutes to pull ahead by ten 48-38 heading into the final frame.  
  • 4Q: Central Missouri opened the final ten minutes with an 11-1 run to build a 20 point advantage with just over seven minutes to play. The Cardinals made a run in the final 90 seconds as five consecutive points from Ashley Pitrof helped closed the gap to 66-56 but Jewell could get no closer. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals committed just 15 turnovers while forcing the Jennies into 22. 
  • Jewell connected on just 51.2 percent of shots from the charity stripe. 
  • The Jewell bench outscored UCM 25-20 while the two squads were tied with 22 points in the paint. 

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • Harrell topped the Cardinals with 13 points while Sydney Offield added ten. 
  • Senior Katie Finn posted four assists while Harrell and Lindsey McCoy each collected three steals. 

TURNING POINT
  • Central Missouri hit back-to-back three point shots just under two minutes into the fourth quarter to turn a ten point advantage into a 16 point lead. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals have a quick turnaround as they head back to Warrensburg, Mo. on Sunday to take on (RV) Pittsburg State University at 2:00 p.m. The home opener for the Cardinals will be Monday at 5:00 p.m. as they host Graceland.
