The William Jewell women's basketball team opened the Holiday Inn Cherry Creek Classic with a win over Colorado Christian 71-66 on Friday afternoon in Denver, Colo. With the win, the Cardinals move to 2-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1Q: The Cardinals used a 6-0 run over a 1:22 period during the opening quarter to take a 15-9 lead. A layup from Colorado Christian with two seconds remaining pulled the Cougars within three at 17-14.
- 2Q: After CCU tied the game at 23-23, Jewell used a 9-2 run led by three point shots from Katie Finn and Hayden Butler to grab their biggest lead of the day at 32-25. The Cougars hit a shot with over a minute remaining in the half to make the Cardinal lead five points at the break.
- 3Q: The two teams traded points throughout the third quarter as Jewell led by three heading into the final period.
- 4Q: The Cardinals opened the final frame with an 8-2 run to take a nine point lead 51-42 with just under seven minutes to play. The Cougars pulled within two with just 24 seconds remaining but Jewell took advantage of late free throws hitting all six attempts over the final 20 seconds to secure the win.

- Sydney Offield led three players in double figures with 20 points while Finn and Rodriguez added 14 each.
- Rodriguez posted her first career double-double, pulling down ten rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
