Cardinal Rally Falls Short at Truman State

Box Score The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference match with Truman State 3-1 on the road on Saturday. The loss drops the Cardinals to 10-19 overall and 4-12 in the GLVC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SET ONE: With the opener tied 9-9, Truman State used a 10-3 run to separate themselves at 20-12. The Cardinals scored four of the next five points, thanks to three Bulldog errors to pull within 21-16, but two kills and two errors by Jewell gave Truman the win 25-17.
  • SET TWO: Set two was similar to the first as the Bulldogs used a short 6-0 run to put the Cardinals into a hole they could not recover from, falling 25-17.
  • SET THREE: The Cardinals came out of the intermission firing, running out to an 8-3 advantage, behind three kills from Elizabeth Quinn. The Bulldogs responded however, tying the set at 9-9. Jewell rallied again 6-1 run to pull ahead 15-10 and eventually led by as many as six at 21-15. Truman made things interesting by tying the set 22-22 before Raechel Meisinger sealed the set with a kill 25-23.
  • SET FOUR: The finale was a battle as Jewell fell behind by as many as seven before mounting a rally. Down 19-13, put together an 8-1 run to turn a six point deficit into a 21-20 lead. The advantage was short lived however, as the Bulldogs tied things up at 21 and again at 22 and 23 point. Back-to-back kills from Quinn and Grace Miller gave Jewell set point at 25-24 but three consecutive errors allowed the Bulldogs to slip away with the set 27-25.
