Cards Close First Semester With 106-91 Win Over Ottawa

Five Cardinals scored in double figures to lead the William Jewell College men's basketball to a 106-91 victory over Ottawa University on Monday night.  Jewell improves to 12-1 overall on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1st Half: Jewell opened the game building an eight point lead midway through the first half.   
  • 1st Half: Jewell extended the lead to 41-27 with just under four minutes to play before the Braves went on a run to trail 48-41 at the half.   
  • 2nd Half: Ottawa came out of the locker room and cut the lead to four before Jewell posted three consecutive three point plays to take a 68-54 lead. 
  • 2nd Half: The Cards would build a lead as big as 24 and were not threatened the rest of the way.   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals who average over 10 three pointers made per game drained 13 three point shots on the night.   
  • The Braves out-rebounded the Cards 37-24 on the night. 
  • Jewell assisted on 21 of 35 field goals made. 
 
TURNING POINT
  • The Cards used a 14-3 run in the second half to pull away from Braves. 

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • Pharroh Gordon led Jewell with a game high 26 points shooting 9-for-11 from the field. 
  • Keith Hayes, Patrick Whelan, Eysan Wiley and Byron Harp were the other Cardinals in double figures with 23, 20, 14 and 11 respectively.
  • Wiley finished with a double double as he pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.   

YOU SHOULD NOTE
  • The Cards 12-1 start matches their best start since the 2010-11 season.    
  • Senior Emil Ostafiiciuc moved into ninth place all-time earning his 69th and 70th career blocked shots to surpass Ronald Robinson (2002-06). 
  • Along with his game high 26 points, Gordon swiped five steals which is the most by any Cardinal since Christian Hildebrandt vs. Indianapolis in January 2015. 
  • The 16 steals by the Cardinals are the most in a single game for Jewell since they posted 15 vs. Southwest Baptist on December 14, 2013. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play when they travel to crosstown rival Rockhurst on January 4.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
