Box Score The William Jewell College men's basketball team had their two game winning streak snapped at the hands of Truman State University, 92-86 on Thursday night in Kirksville, Mo.
The loss drops the Cards to 8-16 overall and 4-12 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Bulldogs move to 19-7 overall and 11-5 in league play.
The Cardinals struggled to find their shot in the first half shooting only 35 percent from the field and hit only 3-of-14 three pointers. Jewell would go into halftime trailing 48-32.
Truman built a lead as big as 17 with 18:28 to play and then led by 16 with 4:16 to play. Jewell shot 58 percent from the field in the second half and drained 7 second half three pointers to go on an 11-0 run that cut Truman's lead to five with 24 seconds to play. The Bulldogs scored on a layup and hit two free throws to hang on for the win.
Matt Lassen led all scores with 29 including 4-of-4 from three-point land.
Jorge Perez-Laham contributed 23 while
Patrick Whelan and
Larry Fitzgerald also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 respectively. Fitzgerald also pulled down 10 rebounds to record his second double double of the season.
The Cardinals will next travel to Quincy, Ill., on Saturday as they take on Quincy University. Tip-off is slated for 3:15 p.m.
