The William Jewell women's basketball team dropped a road Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Truman State on Thursday night by a score of 67-51. The Cardinals, who are looking to secure a spot in the GLVC postseason tournament next weekend, now stand at 12-12 overall and 8-8 in league play.
The Cardinals struggled early, trailing 19-6 after the first ten minutes of play. Jewell shot just 29 percent from the floor in the opening half and trailed by 13 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Cards made a run and cut the lead to nine at 40-31 after a three by
Kayla Harrell. However, the Bulldogs closed the period on a 12-2 run to lead 52-33 heading into the final frame.
Truman State used ten made free throws over the final ten minutes to ice the game. Overall, the Cardinals managed just a 30.9 percent clip from the floor, but did connect on 7-of-19 from three point land.
Maddie Nelson led Jewell with 18 points and six rebounds, while Harrell added nine points and
Katie Finn chipped in eight and two assists.
