The William Jewell College women's tennis team earned a 7-2 victory at Doane University on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals improve to 1-4 and will play at Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday morning. The Tigers drop to 0-5.
Jewell swept doubles action with
Becca Richison and
Claire Mackay teaming for an 8-1 victory at the top spot. The No. 2 duo of
Whitney Holloman and
Hannah Waine rallied for a 9-8 win at No. 2 while the No. 3 team of
Caroline Lane and
Meredith Houk came back from a 6-2 deficit to win 9-7.Â
Mackay put Jewell up 4-0 with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 performance at No. 2 and Holloman won the deciding fifth match at No. 4 6-2, 6-0. Richison was a winner at No.
1 singles 6-2, 7-6 and Waine breezed to a straight set win at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3. Â
Houk lost a tough 7-6, 6-3 contest at No. 5 and
Jade Moore fell 3-6, 6-4, and 11-9 at No. 6 singles.Â
The Cardinals will take on Nebraska Wesleyan at 8:30 a.m. followed by a rematch from the fall with Baker University. Both matches will take place at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
