Box Score 2 The William Jewell College women's team blanked Nebraska Wesleyan 9-0 and dominated Baker University 8-1 today at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
In the first match of the day, the Cardinals faced off against the Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan.
Becca Richison teamed with
Hannah Waine for an 8-0 win at No.1 doubles followed by
Claire Mackay and
Whitney Holloman's 8-2 win at No. 2.Â
Caroline Lane and
Meredith Houk hung in for a 9-8 win at No. 3 that put Jewell up 3-0 heading into singles play.
Jewell dominated singles play and did not drop a set in all six matches to improve to 2-4 on the season while Nebraska Wesleyan fell to 1-9.
The Cardinals then faced off against the Wildcats of Baker University in a rematch from fall in which Baker won 6-3.Â
Again the Cardinals used strong doubles play in all three matches to go up 3-0 winning 8-3, 8-1 and 8-2 respectively.
The Cardinals took five of six singles matches in straight sets with Baker's only match win coming via injury default at No. 5 singles.Â
With the win Jewell moves to 3-4 overall and Baker falls to 4-1.
William Jewell will be back in action against cross-divisional rival McKendree Sunday February 26 at 1:30 p.m. in O'Fallon, Ill.
