The William Jewell College men's basketball team fell to Lewis University, 81-78 tonight in Great Lakes Valley Conference play in Liberty.
Jewell found themselves up 78-74 with 2:08 to play before the Flyers closed the game with a 7-0 run to produce the winning three point margin.
The Cards dug themselves in a hole early and trailed 13-3 with five turnovers. Jewell was able to turn things around from that point to the end of the first half and had 10 assists and only one turnover and led at the half, 43-42.
The second half was back and forth with Jewell leading for the majority of the half with their biggest lead being six on five occasions only to see Lewis answer with the biggest run of the game in the final two minutes of play.
Junior
Patrick Whelan scored a game high and a career high 32 points with 8 rebounds, and two assists in 40 minutes of play. Senior guard
Jorge Perez-Laham contributed 14 points, four boards and three assists while
Larry Fitzgerald had 13 points in 26 minutes of play.
William Jewell (6-13, 2-9 GLVC) returns to the hardwood on Saturday, February 4 against No. 23 Wisconsin-Parkside at 3:00 p.m. at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Mo.
