Dylan Christie posted an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to score
Brad Jelinek to account for the only run in Jewell's 1-0 win over Arlington Baptist Saturday in Texas. The Cardinals are now 2-3 overall with one game to go with the Patriots on Sunday afternoon.
With one out, Jelinek singled and advanced to second on a passed ball before coming around to score on the Christie single.
Jewell put runners on in the following four innings but couldn't push a run across. In the bottom of the eighth, the Patriots put two runners in scoring position before three consecutive ground outs helped the Cards escape the jam.
Zach Hutcherson (1-0) earned his first win of the season after tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out two.
Eric Smith got the save (2) after striking out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning.
Christie, Jelinek,
Garrett McKinzie, and Ben Paulter each posted two hits on the day.
Jewell will wrap up the three-game series with Arlington Baptist on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals will host Bemidji State next weekend in the home opener.
