The William Jewell College baseball team continued their series with Bemidji State University on Saturday at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo.
Jewell used a strong pitching performance from junior
Zach Hutcherson and a huge 9 run seventh inning to dominate the Beavers 13-3. The Cardinals move to 4-4 overall while BSU falls to 1-1.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Jewell plated two runs off a balk and an RBI double from
Brad Jelinek scored
Drew Standifer.
In the fourth
Ben Pautler's triple scored
Tanner Foerschler to put Jewell up 3-0 and Standifer hit his second homerun of the year in the fifth, a bomb over the right field fence to that gave Jewell a 4-0 lead.
Jewell sent 13 batters to the plate in the seventh and plated 9 runs to put the game away.
Nate Pecota led the Jewell offense with three hits and three RBI's and Standifer also had three hits and three runs scored on the afternoon.
Hutcherson hurled six strong innings giving up one hit while striking out 9. Overall Cardinal pitchers ended up striking out 13 Beaver batters during the game.
The Cardinals will wrap up the three game series tomorrow (Sunday). First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
