The William Jewell College baseball team was dealt a tough loss on Tuesday in its home finale as Northwest Missouri State escaped 6-3 in 11 innings.

Jewell used four pitchers who each threw at least two innings, and combined they gave up six hits, and three runs while striking out 9 batters. Â The loss went to
Thomas Hennelly (0-2) who surrendered two runs on one hit and failed to record an out.

The Bearcats took an early 2-0 lead before the Cards scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Northwest scored again in the top of the sixth before Jewell plated home another single run in the bottom of the frame.Â

Tanner Foerschler went 1-for-5 on the day with a solo homerun that tied the game in the bottom of the eighth.Â

Northwest Missouri then manufactured three runs in the top of the 11th that produced the winning 6-3 margin.

During the final three innings Jewell struggled at the plate reaching base only once.

The Cardinals will head to Quincy, Ill., this weekend to close out the regular season with doubleheaders against Quincy University on Saturday and Sunday respectively.Â
