Cardinals Swept By No. 25 Rockhurst

Box Score The William Jewell volleyball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 3-0 loss at the hands of No. 25 Rockhurst on Thursday night in the Mabee Center. Jewell drops to 2-7 on the season and 1-1 in the GLVC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SET ONE: Jewell got off the a slow start in the opener falling into a 19-5 hole before stringing together back-to-back points off a kill from Stefanie Richterkessing and a Hawk error. The Cardinals pulled within 23-10 on consecutive kills from Maddie Wingert before Rockhurst took the set 25-12. 
  • SET TWO: Set two was a back-and-forth affair with no team gaining more than a three point advantage until a 6-1 Rockhurst run gave the Hawks a 19-14 lead. With RU up 24-18 Jewell made things interesting posting back-to-back kills to pull with four at 24-20 but a kill from the Hawks' Alyssa Woodman sealed the set. 
  • SET THREE: In the finale, the Cards again dug an early hole and couldn't recover, falling 25-14.

  • The Cardinals have a split weekend this week as they travel to UW-Parkside on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. match up.
