Box Score The William Jewell Volleyball team fell 3-1 to Illinois Springfield on Friday night in the Mabee Center by scores of 25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 21-25. With the loss Jewell drops to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET ONE: Jewell jumped out to an early 19-11 lead by three kills from Maddie Wingert and taking advantage of multiple UIS errors. The Prairie Stars did not go quietly however, pulling within one at 23-22 before back-to-back Cardinal kills ended the set 25-22.
- SET TWO: Jewell dug a hole in the second set trailing by as many as 12 (16-5) before mounting a rally. The Cardinals used five kills, including three from Wingert, to help them on a 9-3 run that pulled them within 20-17. UIS scored five of the next eight points to take the set 25-21.
- SET THREE: After the intermission, UIS jumped out to an early 7-4 lead that they never relinquished going on to win 25-19.
- SET FOUR: The final set was a back-and-forth battle with each team going on small runs only to see their opponent battle back. With Jewell leading 18-17, the Cardinals committed three errors and saw two kills from UIS to put Jewell in a 22-18 hole. The Prairie Stars went on to take the set 25-21.

- Jewell dug up 100 balls on the night which is season best for a four set match, and second in the GLVC this year.
