The William Jewell College men's soccer team opened up their 2017 campaign tonight by hosting University of Illinois-Springfield. The Prairie Stars converted on a late penalty kick to down the Cards 1-0. Jewell falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play while UIS improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Prairie Stars Rhys Wallace was fouled in the box at the 73:37 mark in the second half. He converted the penalty kick for his second goal of the season and UIS was able to hang on for the win.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Jewell outshot UIS 6-5 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
IN GOAL
Nick Cooper got his first career start in goal for Jewell and saved two shots.
