The William Jewell College women's soccer team opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference play this evening as they hosted University of Illinois-Springfield. The Cards scored twice in the second half to earn their second shut out of 2017 and improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in GLVC play. UIS falls to 2-1-1 and 0-1 in league play. This marks the first time since 2013 the Cardinals have started 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Aspen Hawkins got the Cards on the board at the 50:58 mark when she drilled home a goal from the top of the box.
Gracie Schweinfurth netted her first career goal at the 65:09 mark to produce the winning 2-0 margin.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Jewell outshot UIS 11-8 and held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
IN GOAL
Jordan Lewis continues to impress on the young season earning her second win and second shutout of 2017. Lewis stopped five shots on the night for Jewell.
