Late Rally Falls Short as Cardinals Drop 59-56 Decision to Rockhurst

The William Jewell women's basketball saw a last minute rally fall just short on Thursday evening suffering a 59-56 loss to Rockhurst. The loss drops the Cardinals to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q: The Cardinals opened the game trailing 8-2 before closing the quarter on a 9-6 run to pull within 15-11 after the first ten minutes of play.
  • 2Q: Rockhurst expanded their lead to 11 at the break, 33-22, as Jewell went cold in the second quarter, making just four field goals, all coming in the first three minutes of the period.
  • 3Q: Jewell opened the second half by cutting the lead to five on two free throws from Adriana Rodriguez, only to see Rockhurst respond with a run of their own and push the lead to 12 with just under six minutes remaining in the period. The Cardinals made a run over the final three minutes as Kaiti Butaud, Natalie Closser, and Sydney Offield all scored to pull Jewell with 47-42.
  • 4Q: After Rockhurst looked as though they would runaway, pushing the lead to double-digits Jewell rallied once again. An 8-1 run by the Cardinals pulled them within 56-55 before being forced to foul. The two teams traded free throws until the Hawks made just one of two free shots to give the Cardinals a chance at the end. With ten seconds remaining Jewell was able to get two shots off but could not get them to go and fell by three 59-56.
