Second Half Rally Propels Cards to Win Over Bellarmine

The William Jewell women's basketball team used a third quarter run to steal a game from Bellarmine University 63-60 on Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center. The win moves, the Cardinals to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1Q: Both teams suffered through a sluggish first quarter as Bellarmine held a slight advantage at 12-11.
  • 2Q: The Cardinals took a five point advantage on a three pointer from Katie Finn only to see the Knights rally and retake the lead 24-23. Sydney Offield hit two free throws with 41 seconds remaining in the half to push the Cards back on top 29-27 but a layup from Bellarmine's Raven Merriweather knotted things up at 29 at the half.
  • 3Q: The third quarter was all Cardinals as they turned a 35-35 game into 48-39 advantage, led by nine points from Kayla Harrell.
  • 4Q: After Jewell pushed the lead to as many as 12, Bellarmine mounted a rally with an 18-6 run to tie the game at 58. Harrell and Sydney Offield each hit key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
