The William Jewell volleyball team swept Trevecca Nazarene on Friday afternoon to open the 2018 Mizuno Midwest Region Crossover with a victory. The Cardinals move to 6-17 on the season with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set One: Trailing 8-6 early in the early going, the Cardinals went on a 5-0 run capped by a kill from Grace Baucom to take an 11-8 lead and force a TNU timeout. A 10-3 run by the Trojans pushed Jewell back three points until late timeout helped spark the offense and eventually tied the set at 23. After holding off set point twice, the Cardinals got a kill from Maddie Wingert, combined with back-to-back errors by the Trojans to take the opener 27-25.
- Set Two: The two teams matched point-for-point early in the second set before a 7-1 Jewell run, led by three kills from Jenna Rau, put the Cardinals on top 18-12. Jewell allowed the Trojans just four more points and took the set 25-16, capped by three consecutive kills from Rau and Tori Vogt.
- Seth Three: Trailing by three late in the set, the Cardinals scored nine of the next 11 points, to take a 23-19 advantage. The Trojans did not go quietly however, scoring the following four points to knot the set at 23 before before a kill and block by Raechel Meisinger sealed the win for Jewell.
