The William Jewell volleyball team dominated the fifth set of Friday night's matchup with Missouri S&T from start to finish to win the match 3-2. The win brings the Cardinals final record to 12-20 overall and 6-12 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set One: After an emotional Senior Night ceremony, the Cardinals came out strong, taking a 21-16 lead and forcing a Missouri S&T timeout. Jewell did not let up however, as kills from Meghan Tauke and Grace Baucom, combined with two Miner errors to win the opener, 25-19.
- Set Two: Set two saw Missouri S&T jump out to the large lead, 22-16. The Cardinals made things interesting with kills by Baucom, Jenna Rau and Raechel Meisinger to pull within 24-22 but the Miners' Payton Gannaway sealed the set for S&T.
- Set Three: The third set was a back-and-forth affair from first serve to final point with the final margin of three points being the largest in the frame. Tied at 20, the Cardinals took advantage of three Miner errors and capped the set with kills from Baucom and Elizabeth Quinn to win 25-22.
- Set Four: The Miners took set four by utilizing a 7-1 run to grab a 22-14 lead. A kill by Paityn Hardison ended the skid but Jewell would score just once more, falling 25-16.
- Set Five: The finale was all Cardinals, as Jewell jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after back-to-back blocks from Rau and Quinn. The Miners got as close as 8-4 before the Cards scored six of the final ten points to win 15-7.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals out-hit Missouri S&T, posting a .202 attack percentage compared to a .188 clip by the Miners.
- Jewell owned the net posting ten team blocks to just six by S&T, including five in the deciding fifth set.

- In her final game in a Jewell uniform, Richterkessing's 33 digs set a new career high.
- Tolberd collected six digs to bring her final career record total to 2,201.
- Rau completed her career with 136 total blocks, good enough for sixth in the NCAA era while Meisinger finishes with 563 kills which also ranks sixth.
- The six wins in conference play are the most for the Cardinals in Carolyn Raynes tenure.
- Hardison's 276 kills in her debut season is second most by a freshman in the NCAA era.
- Quinn's 98 total blocks and Rhule's 658 assists in 2018 are third most in the NCAA era.
