The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon in Evansville, Ind. The losses drop the Cardinals to 21-19 overall and 8-12 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
GAME 1
Final: 6-5, Loss
HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: Madi Giles led off the game with her 60th career double and came around to score on a single up the middle by Brooke Bernard to give Jewell an early lead. (1-0, Jewell)
- B1: Southern Indiana got on the board with an two-RBI single by Marleah Fossett. (2-1, USI)
- B4: The Screaming Eagles broke the game open with three runs on three hits in the fourth inning. (5-1, USI)
- T5: The Cardinals responded with four runs on four hits to tie the game as Bernard doubled to right and scored on a single by Phoebe Dabbour. After a fielder's choice by Courtney Beatty and a single from Emily Hoover, Sarah Lewis blasted her fifth home run of the season to left field to knot the score. (5-5)
- B7: USI got a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh for the walk off win. (6-5, USI)
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Jennifer Leonhardt (11-8) earned the win, throwing 1.1 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Losing Pitcher: Lewis (4-5) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and six earned runs while striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- T3: The Cardinals again jumped on top early as Bernard roped an RBI double to left center, scoring Giles. (1-0, Jewell)
- B3: Southern Indiana tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a error. (1-1)
- B5: The Screaming Eagles plated three runs on four hits and a Cardinal miscue to push their lead to three runs. (4-1, USI)
- B6: USI added two runs on four hits in the sixth inning to bring the lead to five. (6-1, USI)
- T7: Phoebe Dabbour blasted a home run, her team-leading sixth of the year, to left field to bring the score to the final of 6-2.
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Leonhardt (12-8) earned her second win of the day with 5.1 innings of work, allowing four hits and two earned runs.
Losing Pitcher:
Anna Biondo (9-9) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on nine hits.
