Cards Sweep Rangers on Senior Day

The William Jewell softball team swept University of Wisconsin Parkside on Saturday afternoon by scores of 17-2 in five innings and 6-3.  The Cardinals move to 23-19 on the season and 10-12 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.  In between games,  Jewell honored their seniors Kelsey Morgan, Taylor Friesen, Brooke Bernard, Madi Giles, and Phoebe Dabbour.
 
GAME 1
Final: 17-2, Win (5 innings)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
    T1: Parkside jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Danielle Crockett's RBI single that scored Jessica Shields. (1-0 Parkside)
    B1: Senior Phoebe Dabbour blasted the first of her two home runs in the game, a three-run bomb that scored Brooke Bernanrd and Maddie Greenstreet.  (Jewell 3-1)
    B2: Jewell added to their lead by scoring four more runs highlighted by doubles from Bernard and Emily Hoover.  (Jewell 7-1)
    T3: Parkside got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Kellie Fenza.  (Jewell 7-2)
   B3: The Cards plated four more runs thanks to a three-run blast from Bernard.  (Jewell 11-2)
    B4: Kelsey Morgan and Dabbour each added two-run home runs for Jewell as they put the game away with six runs in the inning. (Jewell 17-2)
 
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Anna Biondo (10-9) earned her tenth win of the year, allowing just two earned runs on five hits.
Losing Pitcher: Allison Hausl  (6-12) took the loss, giving up 10 earned runs on 9 hits.

Final: 6-3, Win
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
    B1: The Cardinals wasted no time grabbing a lead in game two, putting up two runs thanks to two Ranger errors in the inning.  (2-0, Jewell)
    B2: Jewell added a run in the top of the second as Kelsey Morgan singled to drive in Courtney Beatty. (3-0, Jewell)
    T5: The Rangers got on the board when Megan Aliverti drove home two with a single.  (3-2, Jewell)
    B5: The Cardinals continued to use the long ball as they went back to back to back with solo homeruns by Sarah Lewis, Morgan and Lindsay Glynn.  Glynn's solo shot was the first of her career.  (Jewell 6-3)
 
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Lewis (5-5) grabbed the win after allowing three runs on 8 hits and striking out 10 batters.
Losing Pitcher: Alyssa Hrncar (12-7) suffered the loss after giving up 9 hits and 4 earned runs.
