Cardinals Drop Two to Drury

The William Jewell baseball team dropped both ends of the series opening double header with Drury University on Saturday afternoon at Talley Stadium. The Cardinals fell by scores of 4-0 and 11-0 and fall to 19-19 overall and 8-10 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

GAME 1
Final: 4-0, Loss

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T6: Drury did all the scoring in one inning in the opener, plating four runs on three hits and a Cardinal error. (4-0, DU)

PITCHERS
Win: Austin Simms (7-2) earned the win, going eight inning, allowing just four hits and striking out eight.
Loss: Brendan Beatty (5-3) suffered the loss after going 8.2 innings, giving up just one earned run with seven strikeouts. 
Save: Nick Costantino (7) got the save stranding the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

Final: 11-0, Loss


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T2: The Panthers got on the board early with six runs on five hits, including a home run, in the top of the second inning. (6-0, DU)
  • T4: Drury added five runs on five hits and took advantage of two Cardinal errors to push their lead to 11. (11-0, DU)

PITCHERS
Win: Tom Tewes (2-2) got the complete game shutout with just four hits and two walks allowed.
Loss: Kylan Easley (2-3) took the loss, allowing six earned on six hits.
