The William Jewell softball team earned their third win over a nationally ranked opponent in the last week, splitting with No. 17 Illinois Springfield on Saturday. After sweeping then-No. 20 Indianapolis last Sunday, the Cardinals beat UIS 7-4 in the night cap after dropping a 3-0 decision in the opener. The split moves Jewell to 26-20 on the season and 13-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- B1: Illinois Springfield scored first, taking advantage of an early Jewell error to score an unearned run. (1-0, UIS)
- B5: Back-to-back doubles and a Cardinal error helped the Prairie Stars extend their lead in the fifth inning. (3-0, UIS)

Win: Ali Haesele (20-7) earned her 20th win of the season after tossing a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.
Loss:
Anna Biondo (11-10) took the loss, allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven.

- T3: The Cardinals jumped on top first in game two on a three-RBI double to right field from Hoover. (3-0, Jewell)
- B4: A two-run home run brought the Stars within one after four innings. (3-2, Jewell)
- T5: The Cardinals responded with two runs in the fifth as Courtney Beatty ripped a two-RBI single through the right side of the infield to score Maddie Greenstreet and Phoebe Dabbour. (5-2, Jewell)
- T6: Jewell extended their lead as Brooke Bernard doubled to center field, scoring Greenstreet before scoring on an error. (7-2, Jewell)
- B6: UIS got a double, triple, and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to pull within three. (7-4, Jewell)

Sarah Lewis (7-5) earned the win with 5.1 innings of work, giving up four earned runs on six hits.
Loss: Jaycee Craver (9-4) suffered the loss, allowing five earned on five hits and three walks
Save: Biondo (2) earned her second save of the season, tossing the final 1.2 innings.
