Paul Lambert Award Presented to Reggie Morris

The Paul Lambert Award is named for 1956 William Jewell College graduate, Paul Lambert Jr. and is presented annually to an outstanding high school boys basketball coach in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Lambert died tragically in a hotel fire in 1978, after which his widow, Carol Lambert Spence, established the award in his memory through William Jewell College. Lambert's coaching career began with the high school team in Moberly. Mo., before making the move to the college level at Drake University, Pittsburg State (KS), Hardin-Simmons (TX) and Southern Illinois. He had just accepted the coaching position at Auburn University at the time of his death.

The 2018 recipient of the Paul Lambert Award is Reggie Morris of Grandview High School and was presented by current Jewell head coach Larry Holley during a recent awards reception at the high school. During the 2017-18 season Grandview finished with an overall record of 28-3 and won the Missouri Class 4 Basketball Championship, the first in program history. The Bulldogs also captured the Suburban Conference Blue Division title for the second consecutive year, the Blue Valley Tournament, Shawnee Mission West Tournament, and District 12 titles. Grandview was ranked No. 1 in the Kansas City metro and by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. In his four seasons at the helm of the Bulldog program, Morris has led Grandview to an overall mark of 82-163, has twice been named the Suburban Conference Blue Division Coach of the Year and was tabbed the USA Today's Missouri Coach of the Year in April, in addition to being selected to coach in the annual MO-KAN All-Star Game.

Morris began his coaching career as an assistant at Creighton Prep (NE) and O'Hara High School before making a stop as the head coach at Westport. He served as the assistant at Grandview for eight years before taking over in the fall of 2014. A graduate of Creighton University, Morris and his wif Lynette have four children, Richmond, Raven, Rachel, and Reggie Jr.
