The William Jewell men's basketball team faced off against Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon to continue Great Lakes Valley Conference play. An second half rally from the Cardinals came up short as they fell 98-79 to drop to 2-5 in the GLVC and 8-11 overall. The win improves Southern Indiana to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Half: Mason Alexander put Jewell on the board to start the day with a three-point basket and would be a main contributor for the Cardinals and finish the game 6-7 from beyond the three-point line. Southern Indiana jumped out to an early lead, holding a 10-point advantage five minutes into the game. Baskets from Pharroh Gordon and Carter Olsen kept the Cardinals within striking distance towards the end of the opening half as Southern Indiana led at the break by the score of 34-20.
- 2nd Half: Jewell came out much stronger in the second half with shots finally falling from players like Byron Harp, Keith Hayes, and Eysan Wiley. Nick Bradley joined in on the scoring affair and helped Jewell cut the lead to just two with nine minutes remaining in the game. The offense from Southern Indiana responded and was able to widen the lead back to nine points. As time wound down it was free-throws from Southern Indiana that sealed the 98-79 victory.
