Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

USI Uses Big Third Quarter to Down Cardinals, 65-51

The William Jewell women's basketball team saw their three-game Great Lakes Valley Conference win streak come to an end on Saturday with a 65-51 setback at the hands of Southern Indiana. The loss drops Jewell to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in GLVC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1st Quarter: After trailing by six early, the Cardinals went on a 13-2 run capped by back-to-back jumpers from Kiara Bradley to open up a 13-8 lead and force an early timeout by USI. The Screaming Eagles battled back but Jewell maintained a 14-18 lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • 2nd Quarter: The Cards opened the second quarter strong, with five quick points to turn their four-point lead into a nine-point advantage following a three by Antoinette Mussorici, under two minutes into the period. Southern Indiana closed the quarter on a 16-5 run and took the 32-30 lead just before the break.
  • 3rd Quarter: USI pushed their lead to four to open the second half but layups from Bradley and Natalie Closser tied the game at 34. The two teams combined for just seven points over the next four and half minutes before the Eagles caught fire at the end of the quarter, knocking down three triples to open a 12 point lead at the end of the frame.
  • 4th Quarter: Closser grabbed a rebound and put back at the nine minute mark of the fourth quarter to pull Jewell within eight but that was as close as the Cardinals could get as USI expanded the lead to as many as 18 in the final period.
