The William Jewell men's basketball team saw a second half rally fall short in a 90-85 loss to Maryville on Thursday evening in St. Louis. The Cardinals fall to 9-13 on the season and 3-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• 1st Half: The Cardinals started well, jumping out to a 18-10 lead after a bucket by Eysan Wiley with just under 13 minutes to play in the opening half. Maryville went on a 19-7 run to go on top by four at the 5:34 mark. Wiley scored four straight points to knot the game at 29 to end the run and the teams traded points the remainder of the half as the Cards trailed 38-37 at the break.   
• 2nd Half: Maryville opened the second half by outscoring the Cardinals 21-10 over the first six and minutes to push their lead to 12. Jewell chipped away with Mason Alexander bringing Jewell within two after hitting back-to-back three pointers with just five minutes on the clock. The Saints expanded their lead back to eight but another three from Alexander made it a three points game with just under two minutes left, but that was as close as the Cardinals could get, falling 90-85.    

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Cardinals shot 45 percent from the floor, including hitting 12 three point field goals. 
• Jewell committed a season-low three turnovers.
