Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Sioux Falls Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Down Cardinals

The William Jewell women's basketball team held the lead for much of their Friday afternoon contest with Sioux Falls but the Cougars finished on a hot streak and defeated the Cardinals by a final of 77-62. Jewell falls to 1-2 on the young season.

How it Happened
  • The offense was lacking for both squads to open the game as they combined for just seven points through the first half of the opening quarter. Trailing by four, Jewell got three pointers from Codee Myers and Sydney Offield which helped turn a four point deficit into a two point lead. A steal and bucket from Taylor Frizzell made it a four-point Cardinal advantage after one.
  • Jewell grew the lead to as many as 10 in the second frame after two free throws from Ainsley Tolson. Sioux Falls then went on a 11-2 run to close the gap to just one but a jumper from Offield gave the Cardinals a 33-30 lead at the break.
  • A free throw from Rachel Schon pushed the lead back to seven at the 7:24 mark of the third quarter but the Cougars battled back to tie the game at 42. A free throw gave USF a one-point advantage heading into the final period.
  • The Cougars caught fire over the last 10 minutes, outscoring Jewell 29-15 while shooting a blistering 83 percent from the floor and hitting four three point shots to build the lead to the final of 77-62.

For the Cardinals
  • Kiara Bradley led Jewell with 16 points, along with five rebounds, two steals, two assists, and two blocked shots.
  • Schon added 13 points and nine boards while Tolson also scored in double figures for the first time in her career with 11.

For the Cougars
  • Kaely Hummel and Anna Goodhope were tops for Sioux Falls with 23 and 21 points respectively. Goodhope also added seven boards.
  • Sioux Falls forced 19 turnovers which led to 20 points.
