The William Jewell women's basketball team connected on seven free throws in the fourth quarter to earn their second win of the season, 72-66, over Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
How it Happened
- Jewell fell into an early 8-2 hole but back-to-back three pointers from Sydney Offield, quickly tied the score at eight. The Cardinals closed the opening quarter on a 14-6 run to lead 16-14 after one.
- The second frame was even, with both teams scoring 14 points. Two free throws by Taylor Frizzell with four seconds on the clock put Jewell on top 30-28 at the break.
- The Cardinals opened the second half on 10-3 run to build the lead to nine. The Beavers pulled with in one late in the period but Jewell used another 9-3 spurt to hold a seven point advantage heading into the final quarter.
- Jewell grew the lead to as many as 12 early in the fourth quarter after a traditional three point play from Claire Burch. Bemidji State used a 14-8 run to pull within six over the next seven minutes but the Cardinals stopped the rally and hold on for the win.
