The William Jewell volleyball team finished the 2019 season on Saturday at No. 12-ranked Lewis, falling in three sets. The Cardinals finish the year at 11-21 overall and 4-11 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
How it Happened
- The nationally ranked Flyers jumped out to a 8-1 lead to open set one. The Cardinals got kills from Tori Vogt and Maddie Wingert to pull within two. Lewis finished the set on a 16-5 run.
- Jewell put together a solid start to set two but the Flyers used a 9-2 run to run out to an 11 point lead. Jewell scored four straight on kill from Vogt, Wingert, and Hannah Cope before another run from Lewis pushed the lead back to 10 as the Flyers won 25-17.
- The third set started with the Flyers clicking on all cylinders, taking a 17-9 lead. Jewell got kills from Vogt, Meghan Tauke and Elizabeth Quinn to pull within five but a kill finished the set, 25-19

- Alexandra Preuss posted a game-high 14 kills and three aces.
- Mikah Freppon dished out 21 assists while Ronni Katarzynski finished with a match-high 20 digs.
The Cardinals will graduate five seniors in Ruckh, Tauke,
Mary Booton,
Lauren Castaneda, and
Megan Rhule. In 2020 Jewell will return five players who appeared in at least 70 sets with four having started more than 20 games.
