Cardinals Close Home Schedule with Loss to No. 3 Tarleton

The William Jewell football team closed out their seven-game home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a loss to No. 3 ranked Tarleton State University by a final of 58-3. The Cardinals drop to 1-9 on the season. 

How it Happened
  • Tarleton jumped on the board early with two touchdowns in the opening quarter. 
  • Dalton Dye put Jewell on the board just after the start of the second frame as he nailed a 42-yard field goal. 
  • The Texans closed the game on a 44-0 run, scoring a game-high 20 in the third quarter. 

For the Cardinals
  • Nick Fisher led the offense with 82 yards on four receptions while Brad Dee had 32 yards rushing. 
  • Will Schneider finished the day with 151 yards passing on 12-of-32 completions
  • Zac Bayless was tops on the defense with 11 tackles followed by Brock Carter.
  • Evan Sanders picked up his first career interception in the third quarter.
  • Redshirt senior Brock Geisz picked up five tackles to surpass Jimmy DeStefano as the Cardinals NCAA-era leader in career take downs. 

For the Texans
  • Daniel McCants posted a game-high 225 rushing yards and two touchdowns while the nation's leader in receiving touchdowns, Zimari Manning added two more to his tally on 109 yards. 
  • B.J. Jefferson and Jordan Wells each finished with seven tackles. Jefferson added one sack and a pick while Wells had three sacks.

The Cardinals wrap up the 2019 season next week as the travel to Quincy University for a 1 p.m. kick off.
