Big Third Quarter Pushes Cardinals Past Rockhurst in GLVC Opener

The William Jewell women's basketball team started Great Lakes Valley Conference play off on the right foot with a 68-64 win over Rockhurst University on Tuesday night in the Mabee Center. The win moves the Cardinals to 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in league action.

How it Happened
  • Rockhurst took an early six point lead but a bucket from Claire Burch and a three by Rhyann Fisher made it a 13-10 score after one period.
  • With the Cardinals trailing by just two midway through the second quarter the Hawks went on a 9-1 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 28-19 and lead by eight at the break.
  • Jewell chipped away through the third quarter, cutting the lead to just one after a traditional three-point play by Kiara Bradley. Despite a basket at the buzzer for the Hawks, Jewell turned a six point deficit into a three point lead after three frames, outscoring Rockhurst 21-10.
  • The Hawks pulled within two on four occasions in the final quarter but the Cardinals would not relinquish the lead, going on a 6-0 run late to push the advantage to nine. Rockhurst got two three pointers down the stretch to make it close but Jewell secured the win.

For the Cardinals
  • Bradley led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds while tying her career-high with five assists.
  • Burch came off the bench to post a career-best 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
  • Meanwhile, Macyn Wilbers added 12 points while Sydney Offield finished with seven boards and five assists.

For the Hawks
