Cardinals Down Truman 5-1 to Split GLVC Opener

The William Jewell softball team made early runs stand in the nightcap of a doubleheader with Truman State on Sunday afternoon to win 5-1. An 8-1 loss earlier in the day moves Jewell to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: The Cardinals got on the board first in the opener as Lindsey Glynn doubled, followed by walks to two of the next three batters. Anna Biondo drew a third walk to force in Glynn. (1-0, Jewell)
  • B1: The Bulldogs wasted no time dying the game as the reigning GLVC Player of the Year Christa Reisinger singled, stole two bags, and scored on an RBI by Emma Walbert. (1-1)
  • B3: Truman took their first lead after Morgan MaMahan send a three-run home run over the left center field wall. (4-1, TSU)
  • B5: An RBI double by Brooke VunCannon made it a four run game in the fifth. (5-1, TSU)
  • B6: Truman tacked on three more runs on five hits in the sixth frame. (8-1, TSU)

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Win: Lauren Dale (7-1) earned her seventh win of the season allowing just one earned run. 
  • Loss: Madelynne Greenstreet (3-2) took the loss after giving up four earned on seven hits over four innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: Jewell jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Greenstreet, Glynn, and Emily Hoover reached to load the bases for Sarah Lewis who sent a single down the right field line. Allison Rawls scored Glynn with a ground out to first followed by a two-RBI infield single by Kenzie Jones to put the Cards up big. (4-0, Jewell)
  • T5: The Cardinals added a run in the fifth as Glynn walked and scored on a groundout RBI by Hoover. (5-0, Jewell)
  • B7: The Bulldogs got a two-out pinch hit home run by Adrienne Compton in the seventh but got no more. (5-1, Jewell)

  • Win: Biondo earned the win tossing a complete game and giving up just five hits. 
  • Loss: Rachael Kernich suffered the loss allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks.
