Glynn's Grand Slam Helps Lift Cardinals to Split at Quincy

The William Jewell softball team earned a Great Lakes Valley Conference split on Monday afternoon at Quincy University. The Cardinals took the opener and fell in the nightcap by identical scores of 9-2 to move to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in GLVC play.

Jewell - 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T2: The Cardinals got on the board first when Anna Biondo walked and came around to score on an RBI single by Ashlyn Sutton. (1-0, Jewell)
  • T3: Emily Hoover extended the lead to two in the third with an RBI groundout to score Lindsay Glynn. (2-0, Jewell)
  • B3: A solo home run off the bat of Dana Walsh cut the Jewell edge in half. (2-1, Jewell)
  • T4: The Cardinals plated two unearned runs in the fourth frame as Madelynne Greenstreet recorded a bunt single, advanced the third on a Quincy error to score Sutton, before scoring herself on a wild pitch. (4-1, Jewell)
  • B4: Another solo long ball by Kay Bettendorf cut the lead in half again for the Hawks. (4-2, Jewell)
  • T6: After back-to-back Quincy errors and a fielder's choice loaded the bases, Glynn blasted her first home run of the season, a grand slam to give the Cardinals late breathing room. (8-4, Jewell)

  • Loss: Sara Demuth (2-3) took the loss allowing four earned runs on eight hits. 
  • Save: Anna Biondo (1) picked up her first save of the season going the final 2.2 innings and striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: The Hawks jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning scoring four runs on three hits and two Cardinal errors. (4-0, QU)
  • T2: Jewell responded quickly with a two run home run by Sarah Lewis to cut the lead in half (4-2, QU)
  • B3: Quincy put up another cooked number in the third, adding five runs on six hits. (9-2, QU)

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Win: Alex DeVaney (5-3) earned the win tossing a complete game four hit game. 
  • Loss: Biondo (3-4) suffered the loss going 2.1 innings and allowing six earned run. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals continue their eight game in four days streak on Tuesday as they head to Southwest Baptist for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
