The William Jewell women's basketball team fell on the road at No. 1 Drury on Saturday by a final of 91-34. The loss drops the Cardinals to 14-12 on the season and 8-10 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Quarter: The Cardinals started strong leading the top-ranked team by one after a layup from Sydney Offield just over three minutes in. The Panthers closed the period on a 20-5 run to hold a 14 point advantage after one quarter.
- 2nd Quarter: Drury opened the second frame on an 11-5 spurt to push their lead to 20 with 5:57 to play in the half. A jumper by Offield ended the run but the Panthers continued to push the tempo and outscored the Cardinals 9-0 over the final five minutes to hold a 27 point edge at the break.
- 3rd Quarter: Jewell hung with Drury for the first half of the third quarter before the Panthers used another 11-2 run to push the lead to 41.
- 4th Quarter: The Cardinals were held to just eight points in the final frame as Drury pushed the lead to the final of 91-34.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals shot just 31 percent from the field while Drury connected on 67 percent of shots.
- Jewell forced the Panthers into 17 turnovers.
