Cardinals Blast Three Home Runs in Sweep of Lincoln

The William Jewell softball sweep their second doubleheader in as many days on Wednesday by scores of 9-5 and 8-5. The Cardinals move to 11-7 on the season with the wins. 

GAME ONE
Jewell - 9 
Lincoln - 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T2: Lincoln jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs on two home runs in the second inning. (4-0, LU)
  • T3: The Blue Tigers extended their lead to five the following inning as Rachael Balke hit a solo home run. (5-0, LU)
  • B3: The bats awoke for Jewell in the bottom of the third inning as back-to-back doubles from Madelynne Greenstreet and Anna Biondo put two runs on the board. Two batters later Emily Hoover blasted her first home run of the season to tie the game. (5-5)
  • B5: Sarah Lewis led off the fifth frame with a triple to right field and scored on a groundout from Allison Rawls. Ashlyn Sutton followed with a double and came around to score on a pinch hit single up the middle by Hailey Wall. (7-5, Jewell)
  • B6: In the sixth, Hoover and Lewis reached base and crossed the plate on a two-RBI double by Sutton. (9-5, Jewell)

  • Loss: Hannah Hennessy (2-10) took the loss after allowing five earned runs on nine hits over just 2.1 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: The Blue Tigers again took an early lead with a RBI single by Balke to score Bekah Kirker. (1-0, LU)
  • B1: The Cardinals immediately responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame as the freshman Wall blasted her first career home run, a grand slam, to put Jewell on top. (4-1, Jewell)
  • T2: Lincoln got a solo home run by Emily Williams to cut the lead in half in the second. (4-2, Jewell)
  • B2: Courtney Beatty earned a sacrifice fly to knock in Greenstreet who reached on an infield single. (5-2, Jewell)
  • Lincoln's Paige Parker doubled to right center in the fourth to score Williams and cut the lead to two once again. (5-3, Jewell)
  • B4: The Cardinals plated three more runs in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run blast from Beatty, her firs of the year. (8-3, Jewell)
  • T7: Lincoln wasn't done offensively yet as Balke hit her second home run of the day a two-run shot to bring the score to the final. (8-5, Jewell)

UP NEXT
The Cardinals will jump back into Great Lakes Valley Conference action this weekend as they host Missouri S&T on Friday followed by Drury on Saturday.
