Cardinals Take Game Two in Split at Rockhurst

The William Jewell softball team earned a 4-2 win in the nightcap of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Rockhurst to earn a split. The Cardinals dropped the opener 8-7 to move to 14-12 on the season and 5-5 in league play. 


GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs before recording an out. After an RBI double from Courtney Beatty, Emily Hoover stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run shot over the right field fence. (4-0, Jewell)
  • B3: Rockhurst got on the board in the third frame, as Megan Freitag sent a solo home run to right field followed by a fielding error which allowed Emily Truitt to cross the plate. (4-2, Jewell)
  • B4: The Hawks plated six runs on five hits and a Cardinal error in the fourth inning to take the lead. (8-4, RU)
  • T6: The Cardinals made things interesting late, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch to score two while Ashlyn Sutton sent a single up the middle to score Sarah Lewis. (8-7, RU)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T2: Jewell again took an early lead scoring three runs on four hits in the second. Hailey Wall singled up the middle to score two, followed by an RBI base hit from Madelynne Greenstreet (3-0, Jewell)
  • B3: The Hawks got on the board in the third on a sac fly from Emily Clark. (3-1, Jewell)
  • T5: Hoover sent a sac fly of her own to right field scoring Lindsay Glynn to push the lead back to three. (4-1, Jewell)
  • B6: Rockhurst scored an unearned run in the sixth to cut the lead in half. (4-2, Jewell)
