Cardinals Bounce Back with Sweep of Lewis

The William Jewell softball team earned a sweep of Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Lewis University on Saturday on the road, winning game one 5-3 in nine innings before taking game two 3-2.

GAME ONE 
Jewell 5, Lewis 3 (9 INN)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: The Cardinals grabbed an early lead with two runs in the opening frame on four straight singles to lead off the game. (2-0, Jewell)
  • B2: A solo home run by Lewis cut the Jewell lead in half. (2-1, Jewell)
  • T3: Ashlyn Sutton singled to center in the third scoring Sarah Lewis to extend the lead back to two. (3-1, Jewell)
  • B5: The Flyers got a sac fly from Cassie Shaw to score a run and cut the lead to one. (3-2, Jewell)
  • B6: Lewis tied the game on a solo home run from Kristin Kavalauskas in the sixth (3-3)
  • T9: Madelynne Greenstreet and Lindsay Glynn reached base to lead off the ninth inning before Emily Hoover drove in two with a double to left center. (5-3, Jewell)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: Jewell again plated two early runs, the first coming on a double steal as Greenstreet swiped home. Hoover followed up with a double down the left field line to score Glynn. (2-0, Jewell)
  • B5: Lewis tied the game in the fifth on a sac fly followed by a solo home run. (2-2) 
  • T6: The Cardinals responded immediately, scoring the winning run on an error. (3-2, Jewell)

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • Hits: Glynn (1), Hoover (1)
  • Runs: Greenstreet (1), Glynn (1), Taytum Carson (1)
  • RBI: Hoover (1)

IN THE CIRCLE
  • Win: Greenstreet improved her record to 8-2 with the win, going three innings in relief, allowing just a single run. 
  • Loss: Taylor Boelte (1-2) suffered the loss, despite allowing just two hits.

The Cardinals do not have a midweek game this week so their next game will be Friday at Maryville University.
